What is the deadliest weapon I own? My Toyota Truck! I know what you’re thinking. How can he say that? We all drive cars and trucks every day. That is exactly my point. A car or truck can weigh in excess of 2 tons, and can be hurled down the road at high speed. We drive these masses of metal through tons of traffic each day. The potential for an accident is not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when. In fact, I bet you would be hard pressed to find an adult who has never been in some kind of vehicle accident at some point in their lives. Why is it that we aren’t taking drastic steps to take vehicles away from Americans? The fact of the matter is, these vehicles are the life’s blood of our economy. Without transportation of goods and people, our economy would come to a screeching stop! What does this have to do with Gun Control? Guns cause far fewer deaths in our country than vehicles, yet each time someone loses their mind and uses a gun to harm others, the guns come under attack, not the citizens who use them irresponsibly.
The above is an unrealistic analogy of guns and vehicles. I’m simply using cars and trucks as an example of how our politicians and news media operate in this country. People are dying every day on our nations roads, but you don’t hear politicians proposing a ban on vehicles. Why? Because it’s an unrealistic proposal. There’s an even bigger reason why Gun Control is not a realistic proposal. There’s this thing called the Constitution that guarantees each American the right to keep and bear arms. Nowhere in the Constitution does it mention the right to keep and bear a car or truck. Not only is the right to keep and bear in the constitution, but it’s the Second Amendment! It never fails to astonish me how elected officials in our government think they have the right to re-write the Constitution. The fact of the matter is, most of those same politicians are guarded by men with guns. Whether they want to admit it or not, guns are a big part of life in this country. Without them crime would run rampant, and the number of thefts would increase exponentially. In fact, the gun is the only real equalizer when it comes to would be criminals and their illegal intentions. We must stand united against these politicians that want to pass new Gun Control laws. Remember these people and what they represent when it comes time to vote. Our vote is the only sure way to make our voices collectively heard.
Whether it’s hunting, shooting sports, or home protection. Guns have a place in the American household, and always will. As long as there are people who believe they know what’s best for you, there will always be those opposed to guns. We never hear about the gun that saved a homeowners life, or deterred a would be carjacker, or provided a meal for the less fortunate. No, we only hear about the ways guns are abused. It’s sad that our media outlets only exploit bad people doing bad things with guns. While I do believe in free speech, there needs to be a muzzle placed on the beaks of some of these quacks that are determined to give our guns a bad name.
