A recent study announced that there are currently over 200 college and junior college campuses that allow students to carry guns on campus. In order to protect themselves from those who “snap” and take their frustration out on innocent, what is a better deterrent than to allow students with carry permits to arm themselves? These campuses will prove to be the safest in the country over time. Being the father of a college student on a campus that doesn’t allow permit holders to arm themselves, I know that my son is not as safe as he could be.
The main opponents on these campuses are the professors and administrators. Some of their concerns stem from the fact that classes can often become very emotionally driven while openly discussing sensitive topics. While there will always be those who oppose, it’s understandable that those in control feel infringed upon. Let’s not forget the golden rule, “More Guns=Less Crime”. We must then ponder the questions, would the Batman massacre have happened if the killer knew most of the patrons that night were armed? The same question needs to be pondered over the latest mosque massacre.
While it’s obvious what side of the fence GRFA stands on, there will never be a shortage of those who oppose our responsible children carrying Guns on Campus. There is a place on the web where you can not only learn much more about the fight to the right to bear on campus, but you can also donate to the cause. “http://concealedcampus.org/“. While GRFA is not affiliated with these students who’ve banned together to protect their God given right to self-defense, we are big fans nevertheless.
In summary, it should be noted that after a long uphill battle, the University of Colorado recently passed legislation allowing permit holders to carry their Guns on Campus. While there are many restrictions that will no doubt be altered many times over, this is no doubt a huge step in the right direction for these students.
